Message: The sense of energy security has changed dramatically since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. What is now required of energy is safety and sustainability.
The fossil fuels, mainly oil and gas, takes up the largest share in energy source. However they are mostly imported and we are constantly exposed to energy supply concerns due to changes in international relations and economic conditions of countries. Also they can be depleted in the future, and will definitely be burden on the environment. And as for the nuclear power, once accounted for the largest share of power generation in Japan, is no longer the dream energy as "myth of the safety nuclear" has collapsed.
Against this backdrop, the renewables including hydropower, geothermal, and solar power have became a very important factors to solve energy issues. Renewable power exists anywhere on the earth and is not in danger of depletion, ever.
